CGI expands strategic IT services work at LocalTapiola
Montreal-based IT consultancy CGI concluded an expanded contract with LocalTapiola, one of Finland’s largest insurance and financial services companies.
The $58.5 million contract covers comprehensive responsibility for LocalTapiola’s strategic IT services – including core systems and all support systems. CGI will also be responsible for the maintenance and development of more than 200 different systems going forward, as well as managing LocalTapiola’s third party IT service providers.
CGI will work to ensure the Finnish insurance company has an IT framework that delivers reliable services and smooth customer journeys.
"Our transformation to a provider of lifelong security means that our services must be available continuously and without interruption," said Mikko Vastela, CIO of LocalTapiola. "The digitalization project that we started with CGI a few years ago, and which is the largest digitalization project in Finland, has now reached a phase in which we can gradually harness new and modern systems as the engines for our business and service production."
With roots dating back more than 200 years, LocalTapiola is Finland’s leading non-life insurer, with further offerings in life and pension insurance, as well as investment and saving services. The company employs 3,400 people, and serves nearly 1.6 million owner-customers, including individuals, entrepreneurs, corporates, and organizations.
CGI will continue to service the company with its local relationship model, which provides dedicated leaders and consultants in Finland, backed by an extensive network of global delivery centres in Asia, Europe and North America. The consulting firm has approximately 77,500 employees across its global footprint.
"As a company, we have strong experience in the financial services industry and an extensive range of services, which means that we can provide the services to implement and accelerate digital transformation, leveraging IT solutions that best meet the business requirements,” said Leena-Mari Lähteenmaa, president of CGI's Finland operations.
CGI greatly expanded its Northern European footprint earlier this year with the acquisition of Swedish strategy and tech consultancy Acando, adding more than 2,100 professionals across offices in Sweden, Finland, Norway, Germany, and Latvia.
Last year, CGI won a €41.9 million contract with Finnish electricity operator Fingrid Oyj to design, build, and support its centralized datahub.
