WSP, a Montreal-headquartered design and engineering consultancy, last month appointed Olivier Joyal as regional leader for Quebec.

Joyal, who has been at WSP for nearly 20 years, served as temporary leader of the Quebec region since April. In his role, Joyal oversees a team of 3,000 employees in 26 offices across the province. He will also continue to serve as co-leader of WSP’s client program alongside Ami Abd El Halim, head of Ontario and the Atlantics, and Peter Hatcher, head of Western Canada and the Territories.

“Olivier has demonstrated his passion for Quebec and the business, working with team members across Canada and around the world to create a better future for all Quebeckers. Under his leadership, WSP is in an excellent position to align with Quebec’s objectives,” said Marie-Claude Dumas, president and CEO, WSP in Canada.

A geologist by trade, Joyal previously was leader of the earth and environment practice in Canada. He joined WSP in 2005 as an earth sciences coordinator.

Earlier in his career, Joyal was a project manager at Englobe and a geologist at SNC-Lavalin (now AtkinsRéalis).

He has a bachelor’s degree in geology from Université du Québec à Montréal.
