CGI, a Montreal-headquartered technology consulting firm, has entered a long-term agreement to provide managed services for Via Rail Canada’s new online reservations system.

Under the new agreement, CGI will manage the national passenger railway’s critical business applications, building upon an initial contract to create Via’s cloud-based reservation system.

“This new reservation system is an integral part of the customer journey and another important milestone in VIA Rail’s modernization. CGI is a trusted and valued partner to help VIA Rail achieve this goal,” said Martin Landry, president and CEO of Via Rail. “We are confident that CGI will continue to support us as we successfully advance our modernization plans by engaging CGI’s end-to-end capabilities, in depth technology, railway expertise, and commitment to service excellence.”

The Montreal-based crown corporation’s ridership has been hit hard by the pandemic. Passenger trips fell from 5 million in 2019 to only 1.1 million in 2020 and 1.5 million in 2021.

We look forward to working with VIA Rail, helping the company do what it does best—provide passengers across Canada with rich travel experiences.”
