Massey Henry, a Toronto-headquartered executive search and board advisory firm, has opened for business.

The new firm, which also has a satellite office in Calgary, specializes in sourcing leaders in the financial services and public sector. Massey Henry will use AI-driven technology, streamlined processes, and deep sector expertise to deliver diverse candidates on shorter timelines, according to a release from the firm.

“In today’s pandemic-driven landscape, we are seeing increased pressures with regard to risk management, regulatory compliance, digitization, and diversity and ESG, at both the board and C-suite levels,” said Michael Henry, managing partner at Massey Henry. “Our data-driven, technology-based approach is key to helping us accelerate the recruitment of top executives who can address these issues and successfully drive change and growth within their organizations.”

Henry previously spent eight-and-a-half years at search firm Odgers Berndtson, where he was partner and head of the financial services practice in Canada. In his time at the firm, he conducted more than 200 successful C-suite and board searches. Prior to working in executive search, Henry spent three years as an aide to Gov. Gen. Adrienne Clarkson.

Aside from recruiting, the consultancy will also provide board advisory and assessment services. Led by former Mercer executive John Sanders, the practice will advise on board culture, effectiveness, governance best practices, succession planning, and diversity.

The firm will additionally deliver services in leadership assessment and executive and team coaching, overseen by partners John McKay and Mary Morand.

The consultancy’s board of advisors is composed of: George Cooke, board chair of OMERS; Bill Hatanaka, board chair of Ontario Health; Johanne Brossard, board director and former president and CEO of ING Direct Canada; Eric Wetlaufer, board director of Investment Management Corporation of Ontario and the TMX Group; Lynne Kilpatrick, board director and senior retail banking executive; and Sharon Pel, chair of the board of trustees for OPTrust.

“Michael’s vision for Massey Henry is exactly what the market needs to successfully propel our country’s growth and success over the coming months,” said Cooke. “He brings essential transparency, integrity, and innovation to the executive search industry and to the recruitment of many key financial services and public sector leaders. I look forward to being part of the firm’s exciting evolution.”
