BDO Canada buys AI and data consultancy Lixar
Accounting and consulting firm BDO Canada has acquired Lixar, an Ottawa-based firm which delivers AI and data-driven solutions.
Lixar has a 20-year history of delivering services in data, development, IoT, and cloud. Today the company focuses on machine learning, natural language processing, machine vision, and data ingestion-to-data insights. Lixar serves clients across telecom, transportation, energy, public sector, and manufacturing. Its high-profile clients include Bell, Microsoft, and Nascar.
Lixar has a team of more than 200 people across offices in Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary, and Halifax.
BDO’s acquisition of Lixar greatly bolsters its artificial intelligence and data capabilities – service offerings which are in high demand from clients across industries.
Lixar will be rebranded as “Lixar Fuelled by BDO” while maintaining its leadership team. BDO’s big data analytics team of 50 professionals will be transferred to Lixar Fuelled by BDO and will report to its management team.
“Together, we will form one of the most exciting, fastest growing providers of technology in Canada. This places Lixar in every city and town across Canada enabling BDO to roll out AI and data services to its entire client base,” said Bill Syrros, CEO of Lixar.
BDO Canada has 3,700 staff across more than 125 offices in the country. The company provides a full suite of services in audit, tax, and advisory – with $642.2 million in annual revenues.
“This is a win-win opportunity for BDO and Lixar,” said Pat Kramer, CEO of BDO Canada. “Both of our organizations value strong relationships, support local communities, and are dedicated to delivering client-focused solutions. Together, we will become an AI and data leader through a combination of innovation, efficiency, and agile development.”
