RSM's 2018 World Conference to take place in Toronto
Global accounting and consulting network RSM will be holding its 2018 World Conference in Toronto from 4-8 November 2018. RSM launched in Canada only recently, in late 2017, so the event brings greater exposure to the firm’s presence in the Great White North.
Established in 1964 and headquartered in London, UK, RSM Global is the sixth largest professional services network in the world, with 43,000 employees and over 800 offices in 120 countries. Last year, its global revenues grew 5.6% to US$5.1 billion, allowing the firm to leapfrog rival Grant Thornton (which posted US$5.0 billion in revenues).
At the end of 2017, RSM expanded into Canada through the acquisition of the Toronto office of Canadian accounting and advisory network Collins Barrow. RSM Canada was formed out of the 37 partners and almost 300 professionals of Collins Barrow Toronto, with the acquired firm’s head Harry Blum becoming the leader of RSM Canada. That initial move was followed by the addition of the Collins Barrow offices in Calgary, Red Deer, and Edmonton, Alberta – which added a further 29 partners and more than 200 professionals. In addition to audit and tax, RSM provides consulting services in the areas of strategy, risk, IT, legal, restructuring, transactions, and wealth management – focusing on middle market businesses. Audit and tax is delivered through RSM Canada LLP, while RSM Canada Consulting LP provides consulting offerings.
Now, the relatively fresh Canadian member firm of RSM will host the global network’s annual World Conference in Toronto from November 4-8. The event, themed as ‘Tomorrow’s RSM,’ will gather over 250 global RSM leaders and notable guests to discuss emerging technologies, geopolitics, trade, shifting regulations, and alternative client services.
"We are excited that one of our newest member firms, RSM Canada, is hosting our 2018 World Conference" said Jean Stephens, Chief Executive Officer, RSM International. “Together at this conference, our global leaders will focus on how we can continue on our strong growth path while at the same time planning for a resilient and bright future for RSM and the middle market leaders we serve.”
The event will be chaired by José Gómez-León, partner and management consulting director with RSM Puerto Rico. High-profile speakers will include Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield, former head of training at Disney University Doug Lipp, and best-selling author Peter Frankopan.
“We are thrilled to host our colleagues from around the world in celebration of our one-year anniversary, and on the heels of joining forces with three new firms in Alberta,” said Harry Blum, Managing Partner of RSM Canada. “It demonstrates RSM Canada’s leadership, growth and momentum in a country with an economy dominated by vibrant middle market businesses.”
