KPMG launches agentic AI labs
KPMG Canada has launched four AI innovation labs across the country to support clients with agentic AI.
The Big Four firm will initially open AI labs in Toronto, Vancouver, and Calgary – with Montreal to follow.
The labs will serve as “sandboxes” where KPMG consultants and clients can collaborate to design AI solutions and test them in weeks instead of months.
The AI labs are designed to help clients experiment with frontier AI models, build AI fluency with hands-on workshops, and ideate and create AI agents for practical business applications.
AI agents are growing more powerful with every model refresh of Claude, Gemini, and ChatGPT. In a customer service setting, AI agents can now handle common billing issues from start to finish – including understand the inquiry, reviewing account details, identifying the issue, applying the correct resolution, and completing the transaction.
“As a technology-first firm, we are constantly innovating, implementing and scaling new advancements in AI and other emerging technologies so we can better support Canadian organizations and set them up for success,” said Stephanie Terrill, managing partner of digital and transformation at KPMG Canada. “These investments strengthen our ability to deliver better outcomes that improve productivity, reduce complexity and unlock new opportunities for Canadian organizations.”
KPMG’s other AI investments include its AI learning academy, which provides courses to improve client AI literacy and proficiency and features self-paced modules and live, guide sessions on agentic use cases, responsible adoption, and return-on-investment.
The firm has also rolled out an extensive suite of AI tools for its employees and appointed its first head of AI research.
“Through our investments in agentic AI, hands-on ideation, executive education, and applied research, KPMG is helping clients move from experimentation to achieving real business impact," said Walter Pela, AI client and market development lead for KPMG Canada.
