BDO adds Matthew Hartney as assurance partner in Victoria

BDO Canada, a mid-market accounting and consulting firm, has hired Matthew Hartney as a partner in its assurance practice in Victoria, BC.

Hartney brings nearly two decades of experience working with government and public sector (GPS) organizations in Canada, with a focus on financial transformation and public reporting.

He has worked with federal, provincial, municipal, and First Nations government entities on areas including budgeting and planning, operations and accounting, and financial and public reporting.

In his new role with BDO, Hartney will support the firm’s national GPS platform and lead a Western Canada team focusing on BC public sector and First Nations governments.

“Matthew has extensive experience working directly with governments, delivering value and success to their communities, and he brings a strong commitment to strengthening financial management. Hartney joins from Deloitte, where he spent four years and was lead business partner for the BC government. Before that, he was GM of financial advisory services at PSD Citywide, a public sector consulting firm, and a principal in the financial advisory practice of Corvée Professional Accounting Corp.

Earlier in his career, Hartney was a manager at NAV Canada and a senior accountant at EY.

He has an MBA from the Royal Military College of Canada and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Saskatchewan, and is a chartered professional accountant.
