Aecom hires Aleksandar Zivkovic as mining lead for Canadian water practice
Aecom, a global design and engineering consulting firm, has hired Aleksandar (Sasha) Zivkovic as mining market sector lead for its Canadian water business.
Based in Mississauga, ON, Zivkovic brings 38 years of experience in geological and geotechnical engineering, with a focus on tailings storage facilities and mining projects.
In his new role at Aecom, he will focus on mine-related water dams, levees, tailings dams, and material handling. Zivkovic will also develop and execute the mining practice’s vision, including driving client-centric solutions and service excellence.
“Sasha brings an invaluable depth of technical expertise to this role, and we are thrilled to welcome him to AECOM,” said Ian Dyck, water business line leader for Canada. “His appointment will further build out our Canadian mining practice into a multi-disciplinary group with end-to-end lifecycle services support for our clients.”
Zivkovic has delivered services in site investigations, design, construction, operation, and closure for various mining projects across Canada and globally. He has also worked on site selection, engineering geology, and rock engineering for hydropower projects.
Zivkovic joins Aecom from Stantec, where he was a senior principal. He was also previously a principal geotechnical engineer at Wood and a senior geotechnical engineer at SNC-Lavalin.
Zivkovic has a master’s degree in geological engineering from the University of Belgrade.

Aside from mining, Aecom’s water business works on projects in water and wastewater treatment, industrial water, tunnels, hydropower, irrigation, and flood resilience, among other areas.
Aecom last year added Greg Quandt as leader of its environmental regional business line for Canada.
