Grant Thornton has acquired three boutique accounting firms in the Greater Toronto Area: Elements LLP Advisors & CPAs, Sloan Partners LLP, and Steven Brates CPA.

Based in Toronto, Elements has been providing accounting and business consulting services for nearly 15 years. The firm’s 16 professionals will transition to Grant Thornton’s downtown office.

“Our full team is absolutely thrilled to be joining Grant Thornton’s private client service group, to help expand the downtown presence in this practice niche,” said Lisa Saunders, managing partner of Elements LLP.

Sloan Partners, meanwhile, is based in North York and has been serving small- and medium-sized businesses since 1991. The firm’s offerings include accounting assistance, business planning, litigation support, and tax credit consulting. Sloan Partners has a team of more than 20 people, according to LinkedIn.

As part of the transaction, Allen Sloan, Jerry Paskowitz, Greg McRae, and Alon Roitberg will join Grant Thornton as partners, while Sudarsan Nagarajan and Randy Urman will join as principals.

Sloan Partners’ current location at 4646 Dufferin St. will become Grant Thornton’s new North York office.

“This new relationship means our clients will have access to more resources and personnel than ever before,” Sloan said.

Grant Thornton also this month announced the acquisition of the sole proprietorship of Steven Brates CPA. Brates has been providing accounting, audit, and tax services to a diverse range of clients for more than 35 years. He has made succession arrangements with Grant Thornton and will assist his clients with transitioning to new advisors.

“We’re very excited to welcome this talented team to the Grant Thornton family,” said Wade Taylor, managing partner, Grant Thornton. “Their depth of knowledge and experience, combined with their dedication to client success, was a natural fit with us. Together, we’re well-positioned to help our clients thrive.”

The Toronto-headquartered accounting and consulting firm has, together with Quebec affiliate Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton, approximately 4,700 employees in Canada.

Grant Thornton in November bought Ajax, ON-based Hurren Sinclair MacIntyre and Alliston, ON-based KD Wray Professional Corp, and in December acquired Etobicoke, ON’s S&W LLP.
