Buck promotes Alfonse Souka and Dan Hotopeleanu to principal
Buck, an HR and benefits consulting firm, has promoted two team members in Canada to principal: Alfonse Souka and Dan Hotopeleanu, both based in the Greater Toronto Area. The New York-based firm also promoted five US-based team members to principal.
The firm said the promotions recognize the individuals’ accomplishments and their contributions to clients and the business. The promotions also recognize the team members’ continued delivery of exceptional client work despite the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Alfonse Souka is a consulting actuary with more than 20 years of experience in the human resources consulting industry. He has deep expertise supporting clients in pension risk management, retirement, and business planning.
Prior to joining Buck in 2014 as a director, he spent nearly 14 years at Towers Watson, where he was a pension consulting actuary. Souka began his career at Mercer, where he was a pension analyst.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics (actuarial science) from Université du Québec à Montréal.Dan Hotopeleanu is an IT specialist who has spent the last 18 years at Buck. Prior to becoming a principal, Hotopeleanu spent ten years as a program director. Before that, he spent eight years as a manager for integrated systems.
He holds a bachelor’s degree from the Politehnica University of Bucharest, Romania.

The principal promotions in the US were: Brandon Bentz (commercial), Melissa Chacko (health), Martin Kupetz (finance), Matthew Smith (health), and Carolyn Girdner (finance).
Buck’s more than 1,500 consultants in the US, Canada, and UK deliver consulting services in health, wealth, career, engagement, and compliance, as well pension & benefit administration and HR technology consulting.
The firm last year promoted Montreal-based Nathalie Duplessis to principal.
