Avison Young adds three valuation leaders to Edmonton office
Avison Young, a Toronto-headquartered commercial real estate services firm, has added three valuation experts – Ryan Miller, Joel Andresen, and Nancy Brown – to expand its real estate valuation and advisory business in Alberta.
The three hires, who join Avison Young from rival Colliers, are part of the firm’s efforts to expand its professional services offering in Canada – including corporate real estate and workplace consulting, infrastructure consulting, valuation and advisory services, and project management.
Amid a downturn in commercial real estate management and brokerage due to the pandemic, major firms such as Avison Young and Collier have diversified into consulting. Avison Young in April added Deloitte partner Sheila Botting to head its new professional services practice, while Colliers in August launched a strategy and consulting group. Colliers also acquired US-based engineering consulting firm Maser Consulting in 2020, adding 1,000 professionals.
The three hires from Colliers will join the valuation offering in Edmonton, which was launched in November 2020 by Andrew MacLeod and Jadran Mujcinovic.
Ryan Miller is one of Alberta’s top appraisers, and brings more than 20 years of experience to his new role as senior vice president. He previously spent 20 years at Colliers, where he was an associate vice president. Before joining Colliers, Miller was a residential appraiser at Frost and Associates Realty Services, and an assessor at the Saskatchewan Assessment Management Agency.
Joel Andresen, senior vice president, brings a decade of experience in commercial real estate and has appraised more than $12 billion worth of real estate across all major asset classes. He previously spent nine years at Colliers, where he was latterly a managing director, overseeing a team of professionals providing appraisal, consulting, and property tax services. Prior to joining Colliers, Andresen spent over a year at Knight & Company Appraisals, where he focused on residential and agricultural real estate appraisal.
Nancy Brown joins as a client services coordinator. She brings 25 years of experience in commercial real estate, with a focus on administration and office operations. Brown spent the last 25 years at Colliers, where she most recently served as team lead for national administration.
“Whether it is disposition, acquisition or leasing, having a clear indication of property value – backed by data and insights – is imperative to achieving strategic economic, social, and environmental outcomes for our clients,” Cory Wosnack, Avison Young principal and Edmonton office leader, said. “The team we’ve built over the last two years across disciplines challenges the market by bringing a diversity of experience that gives our clients thoughtful and dynamic counsel to achieve their goals across increasingly complex and unique property requirements.”
Founded in 1978, Avison Young provides investment sales, leasing, management, financing, and advisory services to clients in the office, retail, industrial, multi-family, and hospitality sectors. The principal-owned firm has 5,000+ employees in 15 countries.
