MNP, a national accounting and consulting firm, has acquired KBHNS, a Saint-Laurent, QC-based chartered professional accounting firm. The acquisition takes effect January 1, 2021.

Based in the Montreal suburb of Saint-Laurent, KBHNS was created in 2002 through the merger of accountancies Lawrence Kaplan & Company and Burack Silverman Chartered Accountants.

The company’s team of 18 professionals provide services in accounting, assurance and auditing, tax, mergers and acquisitions, forensic accounting, estate management, and business consulting to a diverse range of industry clients in the Greater Montreal area.

MNP’s acquisition of KBHNS will strengthen its capabilities in Montreal. The Calgary-based firm entered the Quebec market in 2011 when it purchased Montreal accountancy WSBG. Since then, the company has continued to grow in the region via organic growth and mergers, including the acquisition of management consultancy Mobilis Strategic Advisors in winter 2019.

MNP acquires Montreal area accounting firm KBHNS“We have been looking for opportunities to further our commitment to the city, particularly in the Laval and South Shore areas, and are very excited to welcome such a well-established firm in KBHNS – a firm that shares our values and client-centric approach – into the MNP fold,” said Dan Trotter, MNP's regional managing partner for Quebec.

The KBHNS team will remain at their current Saint-Laurent office following the merger, but will eventually relocate to a forthcoming MNP office in the suburb of Laval.

"There are over 11,000 companies based in Laval, and the borough continues to grow," added Trotter. "KBHNS shared our vision of expanding our physical presence to support the organizations based there, as well as along the South Shore, and so we're excited to be taking that next step together."

MNP has more than 90 offices across Canada, including 30+ in Ontario, Quebec, and Atlantic Canada. The mid-market consultancy’s more than 5,000 employees offer a full suite of services in audit, tax, and advisory.

The firm earlier this month announced the acquisition of BC firm The Newport Group CPA.
