MNP expands BC presence with acquisition of The Newport Group CPA

Accounting and consulting firm MNP has acquired The Newport Group CPA, a boutique accounting firm based in Port Moody, BC.

The Newport Group was founded in 2003 and provides services in accounting, tax, and business advisory to clients in a number of industries, including construction, manufacturing, transport, IT, medical and health, professional services, and brewing.

The Port Moody-based company works with businesses in the Greater Vancouver and Lower Mainland region of British Columbia. Newport’s seven-person team is headed by George Gillis, a CPA with more than 25 years of public accounting experience.

MNP’s acquisition of the boutique accountancy will add to its growing presence in BC, where it currently has 23 locations.

The Calgary-headquartered, national firm earlier this year bolted on Schwab & Associates, an accounting firm with two offices in Northern BC. Last year MNP acquired Deloitte’s practice in Prince George, as well as Chun & Co, a Kelowna-based accountancy.
