Jean Charest joins Teneo as senior advisor in Montreal
Jean Charest, the former premier of Quebec, has joined the Montreal office of management consultancy Teneo as a senior advisor.
Charest – currently a partner at law firm Therrien Couture Jolicoeur – will support Teneo’s growth in Canada and provide advice to CEOs and business leaders navigating policy, geopolitical, and business issues.
Charest began his political career in 1984 when he was elected as a Progressive Conservative member of the Parliament of Canada for the riding of Sherbrooke – his hometown. In 1986, he became the youngest cabinet minister in Canadian history when he was appointed minister of state (youth).
Charest served as deputy prime minister in 1993 and was one of only two Progressive Conservative MPs elected to parliament in that year’s landslide victory for the Chrétien Liberals.
In 1998, he left federal politics to lead the Quebec Liberal Party. Charest served as Quebec’s premier between 2003 and 2012.
After his nearly decade-long tenure as premier, Charest returned to the legal profession. He has also worked as a consultant for Chinese tech conglomerate Huawei.
Charest has a law degree from the University of Sherbrooke.
“Jean brings an exceptional depth of experience and a sophisticated understanding of the political, economic, and geopolitical issues shaping Canada’s position in the global economy. His perspective and counsel on many matters will be invaluable to our clients, both in Canada and internationally,” said James Crossland, global vice chairman of Teneo.
Headquartered in New York, Teneo has more than 1,800 people across 50+ offices worldwide. The firm has practices in financial advisory, management consulting, people advisory, risk advisory, and strategy and communications.
“This is an important time for Canadian businesses, as shifts in trade, geopolitics and the economy create both challenges and opportunities,” Charest said. “I look forward to working with Teneo’s clients and to bringing my experience and perspective to the issues that matter most to them.”
Teneo in 2023 hired Jason Kenney, the former premier of Alberta, as a senior advisor.
