EY integrates agentic AI into audit platform

Big Four accountancy EY last week announced the global roll-out of enterprise-scale agentic AI in its assurance platform.

The firm is embedding a multi-agent framework built on Microsoft products (Foundry, Fabric, and Azure) into EY Canvas – its global assurance technology platform. EY Canvas processes more than 1.4 trillion lines of journal entry data per year and underpins the daily workflows of 130,000 assurance professionals across 160,000 audit engagements annually.

Agentic AI will be integrated into all phases of audit via EY Canvas, and follows a successful pilot program. It is expected to support all end-to-end audit activities by 2028.

The technology is expected to reduce administrative burden, improve risk assessments, and strengthen audit quality while maintaining the central role of human judgement and insight.

EY’s commitment to our own transformation uniquely positions us to help organizations around the world implement AI at scale. With our people at the center, and powered by our alliance with Microsoft, EY is delivering greater value, deeper insight and increased confidence for our clients and stakeholders – as we will continually redefine the value of the audit in an AI-era,” said Marie-Laure Delarue, EY global vice chair – assurance.

EY says its new AI capabilities have been developed, tested, and deployed in alignment with its nine principles of responsible AI – which include accountability, security, transparency, and sustainability.

In addition to its multi-billion dollar investments in technology, EY has also built a global training program to upskill global audit and technology risk professionals. The program includes immersive and in-person learning.

“EY’s bold steps to embed AI within one of our most foundational services – building trust and confidence in capital markets – send a strong signal about the power, potential, and reliability of this technology,” said Raj Sharma, EY global managing partner – growth and innovation.
