Doane Grant Thornton acquires four CPA firms
Doane Grant Thornton (DGT), a mid-market accounting and consulting firm, has acquired four chartered professional accounting firms across Ontario, Alberta, BC, and New Brunswick: Gibb Widdis CPAs; Capstone LLP; Childs Chanton CPAs; and Paul Babin CPA. The transactions completed on September 1, 2025.
Founded in 1995 and based in Ancaster, ON, Gibb Widdis has a team of approximately nine professionals providing services in audit, bookkeeping, financial planning, tax, M&A, and business succession, among other areas.
The firm will remain at its Ancaster location and form DGT’s first office in the Hamilton suburb.
“Joining Doane Grant Thornton allows us to offer even more specialized expertise and support, while staying true to the values that have defined us from the start. I’m excited for the opportunities this brings to our clients and our team,” said founder Colleen Gibb, who joins DGT as a business advisor.
Founded in 1992 and based in Lethbridge, AB, Capstone is a full-service CPA firm providing assurance, tax advisory, and business advisory services in Southern Alberta. The firm has a team of approximately six professionals.
Partners Justin Van Dyk and Chis Wolsey, as well as their entire team, will join DGT. They will remain at their current location and form DGT’s new office in Lethbridge.
“We’re proud to be part of a firm that shares our commitment to excellence and community,” Van Dyk said.
Founded in 1952 and based in Castlegar, BC, Childs Chanton provides independent audit, accounting, tax, and advisory services to local clients. The firm has a team of approximately five professionals.
Partner Jeremy Childs and his team will join DGT’s Castlegar office.
“We’re proud of our legacy in the Kootenays and are excited to carry that tradition forward as part of Doane Grant Thornton LLP,” Childs said. “Our focus remains the same—delivering thoughtful, grounded advice built on decades of experience and a deep understanding of our community.”
Founded in 2009 and based in Sediac, NB, Paul Babin CPA advises businesses and families in Southeast New Brunswick.
The firm’s addition will strengthen DGT’s bilingual service capabilities in the province.
Paul Babin joins as a principal, and the team will transfer to DGT’s Moncton office.
“As a national firm that focuses on forging deep relationships with clients, Doane Grant Thornton will allow us to provide our clients with more resources, specialty services, and team members while still offering a personalized level of service in both French and English,” said Babin.
