CIMA+ hires Mathieu Bélanger as VP for earth and environment

CIMA+, a Laval, QC-headquartered engineering consulting firm, has hired Mathieu Bélanger as vice president of its earth and environment practice.

Bélanger succeeds Raymond McNamara, who is retiring at the end of July.

Bélanger brings over 20 years of experience in urban planning, real estate development, public policy, and infrastructure.

He returns to CIMA+ after a decade in the non-profit and government sectors. Bélanger most recently was executive director for policy and public affairs at the Canadian Federation of Municipalities. Before that, he was director of the planning department at the City of Gatineau and director of policy at the Office of the Minister of Infrastructure and Communities of Canada.

Bélanger previously spent six years at CIMA+, where he was an associate. He began his career as an urban planner at the City of Montreal.

He has a master’s degree in real estate development from Columbia University and bachelor’s and master’s degree in urban planning from Université de Montréal.

“We are very pleased to welcome Mathieu back to CIMA+,” said Steeve Fiset, chief strategy officer at CIMA+. “He brings with him a wealth of experience and a strong vision for sustainable development, which will be tremendous assets to our Earth and Environment team and to the entire firm.”

The earth and environment practice at CIMA+ has more than 200 professionals delivering services in environment, geotechnical engineering, and urban planning.

Bélanger added, “This is more than a return — it’s a commitment to deliver sustainable, innovative solutions for public and private partners across the country. I’m excited to work alongside a talented team I greatly admire, and to support our current and future clients through purpose-driven leadership.”

CIMA+ was founded in 1990 and has 3,500 people across 40+ offices in Canada. The firm provides consulting engineering services in energy and resources, infrastructure, transportation, buildings, project management, operational and digital technologies, and earth and environment.

CIMA+ earlier this year acquired B&A, a Calgary-based urban planning firm.
