Colliers, a Toronto-based commercial real estate services and investment management firm, has acquired Higher Ground Consulting, a Calgary-based engineering consulting firm.

Colliers will add Higher Ground to its engineering platform Englobe Corporation. Colliers in July 2024 acquired a controlling interest in Laval-based Englobe for US$475 million.

Higher Ground will operate as a separate division within Englobe, retaining its organizational structure under the leadership of president Wesley Ferris.

"With Englobe, we are well supported to continue growing - building on our existing expertise and adding new services - to better serve our clients," said Ferris. "Given the similarities between our respective values, standards, and goals that focus on genuine care for our people and clients, this feels like a natural fit for us."

Founded in 2013, Higher Ground’s 65 professionals deliver engineering consulting services to private and public sector clients in Alberta and BC. The firm’s practices include environmental engineering, ecology, water resources, dam engineering, civil earthworks, geotechnical, and rail.

Higher Ground has offices in Calgary, AB and Fort St. John, BC.

“We're very excited to welcome Higher Ground's incredibly talented team to our family, and for the opportunities that this partnership presents for us to expand our joint market presence in western Canada, and beyond," said Mike Cormier, president of Englobe. "With such close alignment from our approach to business management and our core values, we're confident that the addition of Higher Ground will help us make an even greater impact for our clients and communities."

Englobe was founded in 1961 and has more than 3,000 employees across 60+ offices. The firm has offerings across engineering, design, inspection, environmental consulting, and remediation.
