BPA acquires sustainability consulting firm Ecovert

BPA, a Montreal-based consulting engineering firm, has acquired Ecovert, a Toronto-based sustainability consulting firm, and affiliate EcovertCx, a building commissioning firm.
Founded in 2007, Ecovert has worked on over 200 LEED-certified projects totaling more than 52 million square feet. The firm’s offerings include building certification, zero carbon design, energy modeling, measurement and verification planning, and whole building lifecycle assessments.
Ecovert has more than 30 employees, according to LinkedIn.
Affiliate firm EcovertCx is based in Kitchener, ON and specializes in building systems’ controls – including lighting and boiler standalone controls, RTU controls, and integrated systems.
BPA’s acquisition of Ecovert will further expand the firm’s Toronto presence and grow its centre of excellence in sustainability to 50+ professionals. BPA expanded into the Toronto market in 2023 through the acquisition of TMP.
“With the acquisitions of Ecovert and EcovertCx, BPA continues to build on its momentum in the Toronto market," said Patrick St-Onge, EVP at BPA. "In just 18 months, we've significantly solidified our local presence through the integration of mechanical (TMP), electrical (HCC), structural (Honeycomb and DKWatson), sustainable development (Ecovert), and commissioning (EcovertCx) expertise. This positions us to better support both local and national clients with deeper technical capacity and more efficient project delivery."
As part of the acquisition, Jim Lord, founding principal at Ecovert, and Reg Barsoum, principal and co-founder at EcovertCx, will join BPA as shareholders.
“Becoming part of BPA is a natural evolution for our team," Lord said. "This partnership allows us to scale our impact while staying true to our mission of delivering sustainable, high-performance buildings that benefit both people and the planet."
Founded in 1956, BPA provides engineering services for institutional, commercial, multi-residential, and industrial buildings. The firm has expertise in mechanical and electrical engineering, sustainable development, structural engineering, building science, security, and acoustics, among other areas.
BPA has 1,000 employees across offices in Quebec, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Alberta, and BC.
