J.S. Held buys Montreal-based forensic and building safety consultancy Technorm

J.S. Held, a US-based technical and forensic advisory firm, has acquired Technorm, a Montreal-based forensic and building safety consulting firm.
Founded in 1986, Technorm advises building owners, developers, and their agents on risk and compliance issues relating to building codes and fire safety standards. The firm’s fire safety experts consult on the design of fire protection systems for building construction projects, while its forensic engineers help clients assess damages to property and buildings and determine cause.
Technorm also provides continuing education courses for construction industry professionals, including architects, designers, engineers, contractors, and property managers.
The consultancy has 70 professionals across offices in Montreal and Quebec City.
J.S. Held’s acquisition of Technorm will expand its construction market practice in Canada. The Jericho, NY-based firm has 22 offices in Canada.
"Building upon the successful expansion of our team across Canada, Technorm brings decades of engineering and architecture expertise focused on the needs of the expanding market,” said Jim Stanilious, head of J.S. Held’s insurance services division. “Their technical knowledge enhances our ability to advise Canadian insurers; property owners and developers; provincial government agencies; and architectural, engineering, and law firms."
J.S. Held in 2022 acquired Frostbyte Consulting, a Calgary-based firm focusing on environmental, health, and safety (EH&S); in 2020 bought Examine Construction Consultants, a boutique Montreal firm focusing on construction-related matters; and in 2019 bought Specialized Property Evaluation Control Services, a Langley, BC–based consulting firm specializing in property risk and loss quantification services.
Marc-André Langevin, president of Technorm, said, "As a result of the transaction, Technorm clients now have access to more than 1,500 technical, scientific, financial, and strategic experts specializing in construction consulting, health and safety, the environment, forensic animation, materials analysis and lab testing, fire investigation, forensic accounting, human factors analysis, forensic architecture and engineering, and accident reconstruction, among others.”
Founded in 1974, J.S. Held has more than 1,500 people across six continents. The firm advises law firms, insurance companies, and Fortune 500 companies across a wide range of sectors, including real estate, infrastructure, manufacturing, energy, financial services, and healthcare.
