BDO Canada adds Ahmad Ovais and Julien Lassonde as partners

BDO Canada, a mid-market accounting and consulting firm, has hired Ahmad Ovais and Julien Lassonde as partners.

Ovais joins the consulting practice in Toronto. He brings more than 16 years of consulting experience focusing on tech-enabled business transformations.

Ovais joins BDO from Deloitte Canada, where he spent 12 years and was latterly a senior manager and national leader for business application strategy. Before that, Ovais was a business process analysis consultant at American Express and an assistant systems engineer at Tata Consultancy Services.

He has an MBA from the University of Toronto and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Aligarh Muslim University in India.

Based in Montreal, Lassonde joins the scientific research and experimental development (SR&ED) and government incentives practice. He brings 20+ years of experience in securing government incentives for companies, including tax credits, grants, and other funding programs.

Lassonde joins BDO from PwC Canada, where he spent seven years and was a tax partner and national incentives leader. Before that, he spent 13 years at Deloitte Canada, where he was a partner focusing on SR&ED and government incentives.

Lassonde has an MBA from HEC Montreal and a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from Polytechnique Montreal.

BDO Canada has 508 partners and 5,054 staff across 95 offices nationwide. The firm has annual revenue of $987 million.

BDO earlier this summer hired Caroline Dixon as a partner and leader of the forensic disputes & investigations practice in British Columbia and Heidi Scorgie as a partner in its assurance practice in Vancouver.
