Zena Applebaum joins Harbor as SVP for market development
Zena Applebaum has joined the Toronto office of Harbor, a legal industry consulting firm, as senior vice president for market development.
Applebaum will lead Harbor’s proposition marketing and strategy, and will report to chief revenue officer Kaye Sycamore.
She brings more than 20 years of experience in proposition strategy, law practice management, competitive intelligence, and product marketing.
Applebaum joins from Thomson Reuters, where she spent the last seven years and served as VP for product marketing – leading go-to-market strategy for several legal tech solutions.
Before that, she spent 12 years at Bennett Jones LLP, where she was director for competitive intelligence. Applebaum began her career at McCarthy Tetrault, where she was a competitive intelligence/RFP manager.
She has also taught courses in competitive intelligence at the University of Toronto and Rutgers University and product marketing and management at York University.
Applebaum has a master’s degree in communication and culture and a bachelor’s degree in English and communications from York University.
“We are over the moon that Zena has joined Harbor. Her expertise in proposition marketing and competitive intelligence, and her resilient connections throughout the legal industry make her an ideal fit for our leadership team,” Sycamore said.
Applebaum added, “I’m excited to be joining Harbor now as AI is having a fundamental impact on the legal landscape, in an industry previously insulated from significant shifts. Harbor has a critical role to play in helping law firms and law departments navigate this moment to a future in which they can thrive.”
Harbor was created last year through the merger of HBR Consulting, LAC Group, Wilson Allen, and several smaller legal sector consultancies. The Renovus Capital-owned company has 800 people in the US, Canada, and UK providing solutions in strategy, legal technology, operations, and intelligence to law firms, corporations, and their law departments.
The Chicago-headquartered consultancy earlier this year hired Lisa Ellis-James as president.
