Chris Chornohos has joined the valuation and advisory services practice of Avison Young, a commercial real estate services firm, as a principal and director based in Calgary.

Chornohos brings over 20 years of commercial real estate experience to Avison Young, where he will focus on expanding his network, identifying opportunities in Alberta and the rest of the country, cultivating a vibrant team, and harnessing technology for valuation.

He has deep expertise in underwriting and valuation for regional and international real estate firms, as well as in investment and land sales.

“I’m delighted to welcome Chris to Avison Young as he brings two decades of solid experience from which we can draw,” said Matthew McWatters, principal, managing director, and Canadian leader for valuation, advisory, and property tax services. “His valuation knowledge coupled with his background in brokerage, investment, and land sales will make him a multi-faceted, sought-after expert on the team – an important combination we endeavour to provide to our clients as a part of our holistic approach.”

Before that, he was director for business development at Chandos Construction, VP for investment and land sales at JLL, and an investment sales broker at Advent Commercial Real Estate Group. He began his career at Colliers, where he was an investment sales and industrial broker.

Chornohos has a bachelor’s degree in business operations from the DeVry Institute of Technology and a post-graduate certificate in real property valuation from the University of British Columbia, and has an accredited appraiser (AACI) designation from the Appraisal Institute of Canada and MRICS designation from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

“Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of supporting client needs by putting them first – and I look forward to continuing to do this, backed by a company that shares my perspective and provides a vast network of professionals that I can tap into for counsel and partnership,” said Chornohos. “This is an exciting, new chapter in my career and I’m eager to get going.”

Avison Young earlier this year appointed Brennan Yadlowski as managing director of its Calgary office.
