EY Canada appoints Alycia Calvert as chair and CEO

EY Canada has appointed Alycia Calvert as its chair and chief executive officer, effective July 1, 2024.

Calvert succeeds Jad Shimaly, who is moving on to serve as EY Global managing partner for client service. He served as Canada CEO and chair since 2018.

Calvert has been at EY for over 25 years and has been a member of the EY Canada executive committee for 10 years. She has served as chief operating officer since 2022 and before that was managing partner for clients and accounts and managing partner for tax services. Calvert joined the firm’s partnership in 2006.

She has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Western University, is a chartered professional accountant, and was named a fellow of CPA Ontario in 2018.

“Alycia is a visionary with deep expertise on the risks and opportunities shaping the business agenda of Canada’s corporate sector,” Shimaly said. “Her leadership and influence will deliver tremendous value for our people and clients, delivering innovative solutions that address today’s evolving issues.”

In his new global role, Shimaly will focus on quality, growth, and go-to-market across all EY service lines and ensuring consistency of delivery.

Shimaly joined EY US in 2000, transferred to EY Canada in 2001, and was named a partner in 2007. Prior to serving as CEO of EY Canada, he was managing partner of its consulting practice.

Before EY, Shimaly spent four years at Newell Rubbermaid, where he worked in the finance department.

He has an MBA from Case Western Reserve University and a bachelor’s degree in business and economics from Notre Dame University.
