Deloitte partners with CarbonCure Technologies on carbon removal

Deloitte Canada has signed a multi-year agreement with CarbonCure Technologies for the purchase of carbon credits.

Under the agreement, Deloitte will directly support the deployment of CarbonCure’s carbon removal technologies around the globe.

Deloitte, along with its Big Four accounting peers and the Big Three consultancies, have all pledged to reach at least net-zero targets by 2030. In contrast to carbon neutrality – which only entails offset purchases – net-zero status requires reduction in emissions as well as support for projects that actively remove carbon from the atmosphere, such as tree-planting or carbon capture technologies.

Halifax-based CarbonCure’s technology injects captured and liquefied CO2 into concrete – permanently storing the CO2 while increasing the concrete’s strength. The process also reduces concrete’s reliance on the carbon-intensive ingredient of cement.CarbonCure’s technology for ready mix concrete reduces environmental impact generally by approximately 5% per truckload.

The company, which was founded in 2007, was recognized as the North American Cleantech Company of the Year in 2020.
