Flair Airlines, an Edmonton-headquartered ultra low-cost carrier, has hired former PwC consultant Maciej Wilk as chief operating officer.

In his new role, Wilk will oversee the budget airline’s core operational functions – including flight operations (inclusive of safety, security, and quality assurance), airport operations, and maintenance.

Flair was founded in 2005 but has expanded rapidly in the last several years. The airline today has a fleet of three Boeing 737-800 planes and 19 Boeing 737 MAX 8 planes, with three more Maxes scheduled to be delivered by the end of 2023.

Flair’s destinations are largely in Canada, with further destinations in the US and Mexico. The company also offers on-demand charter flights to worldwide destinations.

Flair said in a press release that Wilk’s hiring reflects its rapid growth and its commitment to attracting world-class talent.

Wilk joins Flair from Lot Polish Airlines in Warsaw, where he spent the last 10 years and was latterly chief operating officer. Before joining Lot, he spent six years at PwC’s Warsaw office, where he was a manager working on client projects in corporate finance, valuations, and financial modeling.

Wilk has a master’s degree in economics from the University of Warsaw.

“Flair is very pleased to have attracted a person with a proven global track record," said Stephen Jones, president and CEO of Flair Airlines. "Maciej brings experience across the full range of operational disciplines as well as solid financial and corporate skills. These will be invaluable as we continue our growth as Canada's largest ULCC."

Jones added that Wilk’s arrival continues the firm’s buildout of its executive team. The CEO said Flair is now Canada’s third-largest and fastest-growing airline.

“I am thrilled to be joining Flair and supporting the Team in their mission to make flying affordable and enjoyable for all Canadians," Wilk said. "I am looking forward to bringing my expertise in airline management to accelerate Flair's already impressive growth while maintaining the highest safety, punctuality, and quality standards."
