CIMA+ buys Durham Energy Specialist Limited
CIMA+, a Laval, QC-headquartered design and engineering consulting firm, has acquired Durham Energy Specialist Limited (DES), a Whitby, ON-based mechanical and electrical engineering firm.
Founded in 1978, DES provides mechanical and electrical engineering services for construction projects in the educational, health, municipal, commercial, industrial, and retail markets. The firm also works on building retrofits.
DES’ mechanical engineering practice includes offerings in HVAC, controls, plumbing, and fire protection, while its electrical engineering practice covers power, lighting, life safety, and communications.
The firm has over 10 employees, according to LinkedIn, and serves clients throughout the Durham region and the Greater Toronto Area.
The acquisition will expand CIMA+’s Ontario presence and bolster its buildings practice. The Quebec-based firm has Ontario locations in Ottawa, Bowmanville, Mississauga, Burlington, Kitchener, and London.

The deal builds on CIMA+’s May 2022 acquisition of Ediom, a boutique Mississauga, ON-based electrical engineering firm.

CIMA+ was founded in 1990 and provides engineering, environmental and geotechnical, geomatics and surveying, and project management services for buildings, infrastructure, and transportation. The firm also offers complementary specialized services in urban planning and landscape architecture, software development, sustainability, commissioning, and intelligent and mobility systems, among others.
CIMA+ has more than 2,800 employees across 30+ offices in Canada as well as five international locations in Africa.
