Engine Digital, a Vancouver-based digital consultancy, has hired Steven Chabot as managing director and Brian Wong as strategy director, business design. The two new hires are based in Toronto.

Chabot brings more than a decade of experience in digital transformation and marketing to Engine, where he will focus on growing out the firm’s talent and client roster across its Toronto and New York offices. He will also oversee the consultancy’s client relationships with Autodesk, Pernod Ricard, and the NBA.

Chabot joins Engine from digital consultancy Rangle, where he spent over five years and most recently served as VP and managing director in Toronto. He also previously served as VP for client services in Tokyo, spearheading the firm’s international expansion in Asia and managing local sales, operations, and contractor recruitment.

Earlier in his career, Chabot held digital marketing leadership roles across Canada, the US, and China at Sigurd & York, 5Miles, and Just Mobile.

Wong has a decade of experience in strategy and business design. In his new role at Engine, he will develop the firm’s approach and methods for business design and support client work across its portfolio.

He joins the firm from Fjord, Part of Accenture Interactive, where he spent over three years as associate growth strategy and business design manager. His responsibilities included leading and overseeing multidisciplinary teams through various design initiatives, managing client relationships and accounts, and creating a global design research training series for Accenture.

Before that, Wong spent two years as an innovation strategist and design researcher at Great-West Life, where he worked on creating new offerings outside the insurance firm’s traditional portfolio. Earlier in his career, Wong held UX designer roles across several firms.

He has a degree in industrial design from OCAD University.

“With the addition of Steven and Brian, we’re continuing to build capabilities that move up-stream. This means we can compete with consulting firms in a more adaptive, agile, and lean way, while remaining capable to take product, service, experience design and build engagements end-to-end, which most boutique consultancies can’t do,” Stephen Beck, founder and CEO of Engine Digital said.

Beck adds that the Vancouver-based firm has had Toronto team members for several years, but is now taking a firm position on recruitment in the city as it pursues more client relationships in the region. He also says Engine’s New York office is continuing to grow its share of overall revenue.

Engine Digital was founded in 2002 and provides consulting in brand strategy, customer and user experience, product design and engineering, and analytics and optimization, among other areas. The firm has more than 40 employees, according to LinkedIn.
