RSM Canada hires Amy Shumate as head of US tax practice
RSM Canada has welcomed Toronto-based Amy Shumate as a partner and leader of its US tax offering within its international tax practice.
In her new role at RSM, Shumate will lead a team that advises Canadian mid-market clients on US tax compliance. RSM Canada’s US and international tax teams advise Canadian firms and individuals on global tax minimization planning, structure planning, credits and incentives, and transfer pricing analysis and review. The US tax practice also helps American citizens residing in Canada meet their US personal tax compliance obligations.
Shumate brings more than 20 years of US tax experience to RSM, having supported clients in a range of industries on federal tax compliance, state and local income, cross-border transactions, and sales and use taxation.
"Amy has a proven ability to analyze and navigate complex information and develop strategies to address client issues and opportunities," said Harry Blum, national managing partner at RSM Canada. "She brings extensive knowledge and expertise to the team, making her a valuable addition to the RSM Canada tax practice."
Shumate previously spent eight years at EY Canada as a senior manager in the US tax practice, performing tax planning for large US and Canadian multinational firms and consulting on M&A, restructuring, and financing US and foreign operations. Before EY, Shumate spent nine years at Deloitte Canada, where she was a senior manager in the US tax practice.
Shumate also previously worked in the US corporate tax practices of MNP and BDO Canada.
She holds an MS in taxation from Golden Gate University, as well as an MBA and BA from McMaster University. Shumate is a chartered professional accountant in Ontario and a certified public accountant in Illinois.
“Amy's wide-ranging tax experience provides us with even more opportunities to support our team and clients," added Maria Severino, national tax leader at RSM Canada. "Her technical expertise combined with proven leadership skills will drive our U.S. tax practice as we continue to serve Canada's middle market as first-choice advisors."
RSM Canada has approximately 600 professionals and is part of the 48,000-person RSM International network of accounting and consulting firms.
The firm last month added Tu Nguyen as an economist in its Toronto office.
