J.S. Held, a Jericho, NY–based construction industry–focused consultancy, has acquired Examine Construction Consultants, a boutique consulting firm focusing on construction-related matters.

Founded in 2014, Examine advises on construction project execution, helping clients analyze schedules and project delays, monitor work progress, evaluate loss of labour productivity, and quantify costs and damages. The firm also delivers expert testimony and litigation support, as well as project execution training.

Examine has completed engagements in the areas of civil and industrial engineering; residential, commercial, and institutional buildings; and the energy and national resources sectors. With offices in Montreal and Toronto, the firm has served clients across North America and France. Examine has nine employees, according to LinkedIn.

J.S. Held’s acquisition of Examine will allow the firm to offer additional, local support to its Canadian clients.

“We have worked with the Examine team on previous projects, and their expertise and professionalism align with our high standards of quality and service,” said Sean Donohue, senior executive vice president and global leader of J.S. Held’s advisory services division.

Examine’s professionals will join a team of more than 1,000 people across 95 offices in the Americas, Europe, and the Middle East.

Founded in 1974, J.S. Held provides an array of construction consulting services, including project and program management, budgeting, project monitoring, loss estimation, dispute resolution and forensic accounting, damage assessment, contract surety claims, and environmental services.

“Joining J.S. Held allows us to share our expertise with a diverse group of technical experts who complement our existing capabilities,” said Francis Sirard, president of Examine. “Our clients will benefit from an enhanced suite of technical services and invaluable experience that can better support their needs. This partnership accelerates the vision of both firms to expand across Canada and establish our practice in France.”

The transaction follows on from J.S. Held’s September 2019 acquisition of SPECS, a Langley, BC–based consulting firm that provides property risk and loss quantification services. The move added more than 50 consultants in 18 offices across Canada.
