GHD names Malcolm Dixon regional general manager for Western Canada
GHD, a Sydney, Australia-based design and engineering consultancy, has named Malcolm Dixon as regional general manager for its Western Canada region.
With an anticipated surge in government stimulus spending on infrastructure in Western Canada as Covid continues to ravage the country’s economy, GHD has decided to establish a Western Canada region. The global consulting firm has regional offices in Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver, and 25 Canadian locations overall.
“The proposed investment in Western Canada will continue to drive the need for professional technical services in transport, water, and environment. In order to meet the needs of our clients and support the development of resilient communities, GHD is committed to and will continue to invest in Western Canada,” said Jim Giannopoulos, executive general manager for Canada at GHD.
The firm has transferred Malcolm Dixon to the Vancouver office to lead the Western Canada region. Dixon has been with GHD for nearly 15 years, spending the last three years as general manager of the UAE. Prior to that, he served as the firm’s operations manager for the Australian state of Victoria, and as a technical director in the tunneling practice.
Before joining GHD, Dixon was a senior tunnel engineer at civil engineering firm Halcrow (now Jacobs) and an underground mining engineer at Pasminco Mining. He holds a bachelor’s degree in geological engineering from RMIT University in Australia.
“I am energized to take on this leadership role and use my experience to drive GHD’s strategic growth in this significant market. The opportunity to build GHD’s presence in British Columbia, Alberta and the broader Western Canada Region and collaborate with our water, environment and transportation clients is exciting,” Dixon said.
Giannopoulos added, “I have every confidence that Malcolm and the Western Canada leadership team will successfully lead the regional business in the next stage of our growth in western Canada.”
GHD delivers architecture, engineering, construction, and advisory services in the markets of water, energy, environment, buildings, and transportation. The firm has 10,000 people across 200 offices on five continents.
