Accounting and consulting firm Grant Thornton has acquired Friesen Pankratz & Associates (FPA), an accounting, tax and business advisory services firm based in Abbotsford, BC. The move follows three other Western Canadian professional services firm acquisitions for Grant Thornton in the past two months.

The FPA team, which consists of three partners and 12 team members, will continue to operate from their present office in Abbotsford. Founded in 1972, the firm brings expertise in serving industry clients in agriculture, manufacturing, construction, not-for-profit, real estate, and professional services.

“In addition to excellence in accounting, tax and business advisory services, the FPA team places a high priority on client service and an organizational culture that’s well aligned with Grant Thornton,” John Harris, South Coastal BC managing partner at Grant Thornton, said. “We look forward to working together to help dynamic businesses and organizations in Abbotsford thrive today and into the future.”

The transaction builds on a flurry of acquisitions in Western Canada, with Grant Thornton adding three accounting and business consulting firms in November.

The mid-market consultancy added Saskatchewan-based Cogent Chartered Professional Accountants, along with its team of 10 partners and 71 team members. The transaction greatly expanded Grant Thornton’s presence in Saskatchewan, with the addition of offices in Weyburn, Regina, Saskatoon, and Rosthern. Grant Thorton entered the province in January with the acquisition of Prince Albert-based Grayling Business Consulting.

The firm also welcomed BVA LLP in November, adding 30 accountants and consultants. Founded in 1971, BVA brought particular expertise in serving agriculture and owner-managed businesses. The transaction added offices in Medicine Hat, Brooks, Bow Island, Oyen, Foremost and Fort Macleod, Alberta, as well as Maple Creek, Saskatchewan.

Finally, Grant Thornton welcomed the 20-person team from Presley & Partners, a Courtenay, BC–based accounting and financial consulting firm. The acquired firm brought a 38-year history of serving owner-managed businesses, nonprofits, professionals, construction firms, fishing and forestry, hospitality, and retail companies on Vancouver Island.
