FTI Consulting adds restructuring expert Tom Powell in Vancouver

Management consulting firm FTI has added restructuring expert Tom Powell to its turnaround and restructuring services practice in Vancouver. The new senior managing director bring 15 years of management consulting experience to the role.

In his new role, Powell will work with FTI team ins Western Canada to deliver transaction and restructuring advice to management, creditors, lenders, and shareholders. Powell’s transaction and restructuring consulting expertise spans real estate, retail, mining, construction, manufacturing, hospitality, and financial services.

Powell’s previous engagements include acting as the financial advisor to the senior secured lender syndicate of an oil and gas services firm going through Chapter 11 bankruptcy; being the court-appointed monitor under the Companies Creditors’ Arrangement Act proceeding for a footwear retailer, mining company, and construction firm; and acting as court-appointed receiver for a large homebuilder and construction company.

Powell joins FTI from rival consultancy Alvarez & Marsal, where he spent eight years and was a senior director. Before that he spent three years at The Bowra Group, a boutique advisory firm specializing in insolvency. Powell started his consulting career at PwC, where he spent nearly four years.

He holds a B.Com. in finance from McGill University, and is a chartered professional accountant, chartered insolvency and restructuring professional, and a licensed insolvency trustee. Powell currently serves a director of the Turnaround Management Association, and was previously the president of its Northwest Chapter.
